Windows updating without permission

For a while now I've noticed my updates aren't actually going anywhere.I have a fair few updates to install now due to this; I can find the updates but Windows Update just won't download them at all.Of course, some key tools, like the Edge browser and Cortana have received upgrades, too. And, Windows 10 now finally gets a night-time screen mode in Night Light.Unlike previous versions of Windows, Microsoft has branded Windows 10 as a "service" that receives ongoing "feature updates"; devices in enterprise environments can receive these updates at a slower pace, or use long-term support milestones that only receive critical updates, such as security patches, over their five-year lifespan of mainstream support.Windows 10 introduces what Microsoft described as "universal apps"; expanding on Metro-style apps, these apps can be designed to run across multiple Microsoft product families with nearly identical code‍—‌including PCs, tablets, smartphones, embedded systems, Xbox One, Surface Hub and Mixed Reality.Make sure nothing underneath is checked either, like allow all users to install updates or allow other Microsoft updates such as for Office.

I'm assuming (never changed WU settings) that the setting only applies to Important Updates.Deciding whether to update the existing version of Windows or go for a clean install will impact on the entire installation process. Some devices, especially with a low amount of on-board storage, can only do a clean install.I suppose it makes sense that I get a lot of questions about Windows Update and Patch Tuesday considering the nature of my site. So, instead of trying to answer them all individually every time they pop up, here's a really big page of Q&A's that should help out.

The Windows user interface was revised to handle transitions between a mouse-oriented interface and a touchscreen-optimized interface based on available input devices‍—‌particularly on 2-in-1 PCs; both interfaces include an updated Start menu which incorporates elements of Windows 7's traditional Start menu with the tiles of Windows 8.
